Although I love seeing little ones for a couple milestone sessions during that first exciting year, I also know that life gets pretty hectic. The days are filled with feedings and activities (and of course work must go on for Mom and Dad). The nights often require extra snuggles. Before you know it, it’s already time to plan your little one’s first birthday party! I don’t know how it happens. There’s a reason the most common mantra for parents with littles is that the days are long and the years are oh, so fast.
I hadn’t seen Ben since his newborn session, so I was delighted to do this milestone session for his upcoming first birthday. When they arrived, I couldn’t believe my eyes! What a handsome little man he has grown into! I couldn’t wait to photograph that big, toothy grin and sparkling eyes. He is such a happy little guy! What a joy it was to see them both again.
Benjamin’s party will be Toy Story themed, so we did the same for his photos. I couldn’t wait to hear what his mom was envisioning for décor. The set ended up being simple yet absolutely perfect for getting some great smiles out of a busy-bodied baby. We spread out a picnic blanket among the trees at my favorite park in La Habra. Meanwhile, Benjamin’s mom added all of the characters from the movie – actual toys – on top. We added a colorful little banner behind for extra festive flair. Benjamin knew exactly what to do: he quickly maneuvered toward the blanket in adorable almost-toddler fashion and started playing. I let him do his thing and asked him to look up and give me a big grin every now and then. He was more than happy to oblige. His smiles became bigger and bigger as we went along (he must’ve found his modeling groove).
Happy birthday, little man! Hope this year is filled with as much wonder as the last!
